The bchpizza.org website has taken a unique approach to helping spread Bitcoin BCH adoption. The site is a community-led effort that allows pizza shops to collect a bounty if they start to accept Bitcoin BCH and is designed to help expand global adoption. Mathias “Kain_niak” Bos, who founded the website, shared with CoinGeek some of the secret ingredients that are making the site a huge success.
What prompted you to create the site?
The idea was brought up by a member of the Bitcoin Cash Association. Since the first time Bitcoin was traded it was for a pizza, it made sense to start with pizza.
What first attracted you most to BCH years ago?
The potential for artists (like myself) to find a better market for their art. I heard about Bitcoin in 2011 by a topic on a Dutch forum for computer enthusiasts, called tweakers.net…For years Bitcoin was an interesting subject but I could not personally find any use for it. This changed in 2017 with Bitcoin Cash, which brought for native websites that run on Bitcoin Cash like yours.org and memo.cash.
Who was involved in the site’s development?
About four or five people who are all active on the discord server of the Bitcoin Cash Association.
How long did it take to set up?
About a month.
What are your short- and long-term goals with the site?
Our goal is to have 100 cities with at least one pizza place that natively accepts BCH [within] the next 12 months.
How are you promoting it?
We are promoting it mainly on Reddit and Twitter…We really need local people in these 100 cities to work with us towards approaching merchants that have a food place that sells pizza.
The bounty program allows Bitcoin BCH enthusiasts to submit a city and a bounty amount, which is held in escrow by bchpizza.org. If no one claims the bounty within 60 days, the bounty is refunded following a request by the individual or individuals who submitted the bounty. If no claims are received, the amount is rolled over to a future bounty.
Out of all of the locations where bounties have already been listed, two have been claimed – one in Osaka, Japan and the other in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. Currently, Las Vegas, Nevada in the US has the largest bounty at $281.68.
While other cryptocurrencies are trying to figure out how to be deemed an investment vehicle, Bitcoin BCH is the only one that is continuing to be molded to be a true digital currency – one that is meant to be earned and spent the way crypto was first designed. All retail-focused projects, such as bchpizza.org, are helping to continue that push and ensure that Bitcoin BCH is rightfully recognized as the world’s leading cryptocurrency.
This interview is part of an ongoing project to feature advances of the Bitcoin BCH community. If you have a project, or know of one, that should be highlighted, drop us a note.
Note: Tokens on the Bitcoin Core (segwit) Chain are Referred to as BTC coins. Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is today the only Bitcoin implementation that follows Satoshi Nakamoto’s original whitepaper for Peer to Peer Electronic Cash. Bitcoin BCH is the only major public blockchain that maintains the original vision for Bitcoin as fast, frictionless, electronic cash.
